1. How many books have you read so far in 2019?

I’ve managed to read about 72 books according to Goodreads, which also tells me I’m 17 books ahead of schedule! I’ve set my goal to 100 books but I think I’ll pass that goal soon enough. I don’t always update my reading progress on Goodreads so I’ve already missed adding a couple of books. I’ve participated in two readathons so far and that’s exactly why I managed to read more than I usually would’ve.

2. Which is the best book you’ve read so far in 2019?

This is a difficult question as I’ve got many books in mind: Where The Crawdads Sing, A Curse so Dark and Lonely, Serpent & Dove and The Kingdom, The Merciful Crow and The Storm Crow

3. Which is the best sequel you’ve read so far in 2019?

Soul of the Sword is the best sequel I’ve read so far this year. Also, I want to mention The Winter of the Witch -which is a sequel of sorts(I guess- which I LOVED so much and bawled because I realized that the Winternight trilogy is over.

4. Which new release you haven’t read yet, but want to?

Call It What You Want by Brigid Kemmerer

As a newly minted Brigid Kemmerer fan, I want to read more of her books and this newly released YA contemporary sounds like something I’d tremendously enjoy 😀

5. Which is your most anticipated release for the second half of the year?

I’ve written a separate post about some of my most anticipated books of the second half of 2019 and they’re listed here

6. Which book has been the biggest disappointment so far in 2019?

Outfox by Sandra Brown

*Sighs* I’ve dnf’d many books, gave some one stars, but what hurts is giving one star to a book I genuinely thought I’d love because it was by one of my favourite authors. Also, included in this list would be The Beholder.

7. Which book has been the biggest surprise so far in 2019?

Emily Eternal

Emily Eternal by M.G. Wheaton is one of the best books I’ve read this year. It surprised me because I don’t usually find sci-fi books enjoyable but I HIGHLY recommend you read this one! It’s about Emily who’s an Artifical Consciousness( not an A.I.), designed to save humanity from extinction.

8. Who is your new favourite author (debut or new to you)?

The Flatshare

Beth O’Leary, author of The Flatshare, is my new favourite author. There’s also Danielle Jensen, who wrote Dark Shores, Delia Owen of Where the Crawdads Sing, Brigid Kemmerer and Joan He (Descendant of the Crane)

9. Who is your newest favorite character(and literary crush)?

Harper and Mia from A Curse so Dark and Lonely and Where the Crawdads Sing respectively! One of my favourite literary crushes is Reid Diggory from Serpent and Dove 😍😍

10. Which book made you cry so far in 2019?

The Song of Achilles

Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

11. Which book made you happy so far in 2019?

Serious Moonlight

There are many books that made me laugh- sometimes so violently that everyone would stare at me- but I can only remember Serious Moonlight by Jenn Bennett which brought a smile to my face at almost every chapter.

12. Which is the most beautiful book you’ve bought so far in 2019 (or received)?

Sorcery of Thorns

Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson is one of the beautiful books I’ve received this year. Enchantment of Ravens by the author had a gorgeous cover too! I also received The Storm Crow, Beasts of the Frozen Sun and The Girl the Sea Gave back, all of which had gorgeous covers.

14. What books you you need to read by the end of the year?

Along with some other books in my ever-increasing TBR pile, I need to finish reading these two which I’ve been putting off for two long.

I tag:

Anyone who’s reading this and hasn’t done this tag yet!

Thank you for reading me mid-year freak out post

11 QUESTIONS FROM SAVANNAH

What’s the best book you’ve read so far this year?

A Curse so Dark and Lonely is probably the best book I’ve read so far.

Which book that you already own are you most looking forward to reading?

I’m looking forward to reading The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden.

Which upcoming release are you most excited about?

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. I’m excited not only because I loved The Night Circus but I loved the synopsis of The Starless Sea as well.

What’s your favorite TV show right now?

Two of my favorite TV shows just ended and they were Shadowhunters and Game of Thrones.

What’s the last movie you watched and how was it?

The last movie I watched was Avengers Endgame and it was great. I was an emotional mess after watching it..so, yeah..it was great!

Are there any tropes that you just can’t resist?

Enemies to lovers, I think. I don’t like bullies who “redeem” themselves and then the victim and the bully become lovers. I have read a couple of books way back in high school and it unnerved me to say the least.

If you could travel anywhere right now, where would you go?

Scotland first and then all of Europe. I always had wanderlust but my parents never travelled much if it were not for family or office arranged vacations.

What’s your favorite dessert?

I’m a huge chocolate lover so chocolate icecreams, choco lava cake…

Do you have any pets? If so, please feel free to share pictures!

No, I don’t 😦

What kind of job could you never do?

Umm, anything that deals with sketching. I’m decent with taking photos but that is how far my creativity goes.

Coffee or tea, and how do you take it?

Coffee always. I take it with milk and sugar.

The Bookish Academy Awards Tag (2019)

Sahi@My World of Books tagged me 2 months ago to do this tag. So, here I am presenting you the winners of The Bookish Academy Awards(2019). This tag was originally created by BOOKadoodles but Jasmine’s Reading is where Sahi got a modified version of the book tag and now,I am doing it .

The Bookish Academy Awards tag banner

Best Actor: “Best Male Protagonist”

Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

Adrian from the Bloodlines deserves this award. I loved his character arc throughout the series.

Best Actress: “Best Female Protagonist”

Collage

You: “You are supposed to choose one.” Me: Nope.No can do.

I really tried, trust me, to choose a contender for this category but I found it too difficult. Instead,I present to you six wonderful ladies : Omat from The Wolf in the Whale, Emma Carstairs from The Dark Artifices series, Vasya from The Bear and the Nightingale , Kya from Where The Crawdads Sing, all the females from The Priory of The Orange Tree and last but not the least, Sydney Ivashkov(previously Sage) from Bloodlines series .

Best Cinematography: “Best Plot Twist”

why the devil stalks death
where death meets the devil

I have read far too many thrillers and other books with as equally tantalizing plot twists as they’re in a thriller. For now, I’ll choose Jane Eyre(my all-time favorite), Verity and The Winters.

Best Costume Design: “Best Book Cover”

I haven’t yet read King of Scars but I am in lust over the cover. It has my Nikolai as my main characters too so…yeah I’m in lust .

Best Supporting Actress and Actor: “Best Male and Female Sidekicks/Supporting characters”

mortal word

My favorite male side character is Nikolai and my favorite female side character would be Margaret from The Priory of the Orange Tree.

Best On-Screen Kiss:“Best Couple/Romance”

You see only The Kiss Quotient but believe me when I say, I could list another 100 books here but for the sake of mine, yours and internet’s sanity, let’s not list them, yeah ?

Best Original Screenplay: “Most Unique Plot/World”

….. What? There’s nothing to say except here’s my review

Best Adapted Screenplay: “Best Book-to-Movie Adaptation” OR “A book that should be adapted into a film”

I loved the movies so fricking much! I haven’t read the entire series but I saw all the movies and loved them a tad better than the books.

Best Director: “A writer you discovered for the first time”

I discovered Hafsah Faizal through Book Twitter and then I received a proof copy of her debut novel, We Hunt the Flame.  I was completely blown away by her writing. I highly suggest you add this book to your TBR or pre-order it (if you love reading fantasy)

Best Short Film: “Best Novella” or “Short Book”

I rarely read novellas or short stories but I make exceptions when they are written by my favorite authors.

Best Picture: “Best Stand-Alone”

Things in Jars by Jess Kidd is an incredible novel set in the Victorian era.

I loved both of Madeline Miller’s books : Circe and Song of Achilles

Best Original Soundtrack: “Best Audiobook” or “Best Book in Verse”
