WWW Wednesdays #13: Weekly Reading Update

Hi everyoneHappy Wednesday(after a long time!) and welcome to my weekly reading update post or the WWW Wednesdays. It’s been a long time since I posted my last WWW Wednesdays update and my blog posts have been pretty sporadic as well. I’m mostly active on Instagram these days and have two giveaways going on (on) my feed. Without any further ado, let me tell you what I’ve been reading this week and what I intend to read next.

WWW Wednesdays: Weekly Reading Update
WWW Wednesday is a meme formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived on Taking On a World of Words.

WWW Wednesday takes place every Wednesday, where bloggers discuss their 3 Ws:

  1. What are you currently reading?
  2. What did you recently finish reading?
  3. What do you think you’ll read next?
WWW Wednesdays #11: Weekly Reading Update

Currently Reading
The Vanished Bride by Bella Ellis

I’m currently eyeing The Vanished Bride, gifted by Berkley, as my next read. I’ll start it as soon as I finish writing this post and a review. The story is about Charlotte Brontë, Emily Brontë, and Anne Brontë before they became famous writers. It’s described as a “charming historical mystery” and I can’t wait to read it!

Finished Reading
The Lying Room by Nicci French

My last read was The Lying Room by author duo Nicci French and it was gifted by William Morrow. This was my first Nicci French and I had high hopes for this one but it fell flat. I was not “hooked” throughout and had problems with the characters as well. The twist was unexpected and I loved that “shock” element but overall, it was kind of underwhelming.

Reading Next
The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones

I think I’ll pick up The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones after I finish The Vanished Bride. I got it in my Owlcrate September rep box(Use RAMBLER10 for 10% discount) and have planned to readalong with a couple of bookstagram folks.

Anyone noticed that the choices are perfect from Spooktober? It was a coincidence, well..not entirely.

Thank you for reading! What are you currently reading or have finished reading? Have you read any of the titles I’ve listed? If not, do you want to read any of them? Let me know in the comments below!

Shatter the sky

About Book of the month:

Genre: YA Fantasy
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
Goodreads

Raised among the ruins of a conquered mountain nation, Maren dreams only of sharing a quiet life with her girlfriend Kaia—until the day Kaia is abducted by the Aurati, prophetic agents of the emperor, and forced to join their ranks. Desperate to save her, Maren hatches a plan to steal one of the emperor’s coveted dragons and storm the Aurati stronghold.

If Maren is to have any hope of succeeding, she must become an apprentice to the Aromatory—the emperor’s mysterious dragon trainer. But Maren is unprepared for the dangerous secrets she uncovers: rumors of a lost prince, a brewing rebellion, and a prophecy that threatens to shatter the empire itself. Not to mention the strange dreams she’s been having about a beast deep underground…

With time running out, can Maren survive long enough to rescue Kaia from impending death? Or could it be that Maren is destined for something greater than she could have ever imagined?

I guess the Book only subsciption is a bargain but not for International customers(shipping costs dooming us since forever). On Book Depository, the hardcover is priced at $20.69 with free delivery while Litjoy Crate offers a signed book + exclusive reversible dust jacket, artwork by @whimsicalillustrations + author letter + 2x Shadowhunter trading cards featuring Isabelle and Simon for $18.99+ shipping.

I haven’t seen the book on Instagram but have heard of it on Book Twitter and it has dragons and lgbtq rep so I’m 99% sure that I’m going to like it. The art on both the dust jacket and character cards are gorgeous and Isabelle is one of my favourite Shadowhunters so I’m in LOVE!! Overall, I love the box and ignoring the international price tag, I can see myself buying it or gifting it to someone!! Again, if you do buy something from litjoy crate or know someone who wants to buy, then don’t forget to use RAMBLER10 for a discount.

Thank you for reading! Have you ever bought anything from any book boxes? If you’ve bought from LitJoy Crate before or want to, then let me know in the comments below!

Unpacking the Book Box Club’s Purely Books subscription

Book Box Club: Purely Books subscription

Book Subscription boxes : Do you hate them, love them, love them but hate you can’t afford ’em all? Let me know your thoughts!

I, however, fall in the third category. I love Book boxes with special edition books and merches but looking at shipping costs gives me a headache. If I really really love a book, then I just ignore the sorry state of my bank account and order the box right away.

Today, I am going to show and tell you why you should subscribe to the Book Box Club! I’ve been recently selected to be a part of the Book Box Club‘s Blogger’s Army along with fifteen other amazing bloggers.

Book Box Club: Purely Books subscription

Book Box Club is a book subscription box, founded by Libby and Kate, who met selling books in a cosy independent bookshop back in 2010. They became inseparable bookish buddies who spent their evenings talking books, baking bad cookies, swimming blindly side-by-side (no contact lenses in the pool!) and singing pop ballads together.

Book Box Club actually came about after a late night biscuit-fuelled conversation, that went something like this:

Kate: I feel as though I’d like to do something huge, something life changing.
Libby: I know what you mean. We need to shake things up.
Kate: I feel as though I’d like to sail around the world, you know? Really achieve something big.
Libby: Let’s do it!
Book Box Club: Purely Books subscription

Book Box Club sends their bookish parcels to everywhere around the world and their parcels are so aesthetically pleasing that you’ll want to take a dozen photos before unpacking them. Book Box Club is not a book subscription service but is also a secret society for all book lovers. They offer two different subscriptions(and yes, they come with an invitation to the secret society so ssshhh…):

Book Box Club Subscription – each month you’ll receive a gift-wrapped, brand new, YA read, an invitation to their exclusive online book club and a curated selection of unique themed goodies.

Purely Books Subscription – each month you’ll receive a featured read and an invitation to their online book group.

All postage to the UK is free, but they send their parcels all around the world (postage costs apply). All subscriptions automatically renew, but you can cancel or change your subscription at any time.

Posting date for Purely Books subscriptions is the same as for Book Box Club subscribers, so your parcel gets shipped around the 15th of the month.

Since I’m a rep for the Purely Books Subscription, I’ll show you the packaging and the book I received in my April parcel.

What is a Purely Books Subscription?

Book Box Club: Purely Books subscription

The Purely Books subscription is perfect for those of us who don’t like collecting bookish merches. The book you’ll receive will be the same book that is featured in the Book Box Club Subscription so we can all join in on the fun! Along with the book, you’ll receive an exclusive invitation to join the online book club to speak to others about the book.

If you like the sound of any of these two options then you can sign up HERE. You can also use the code BLOGARMY5 to get 5% off your first subscription to both the Purely Books and the monthly Book Box Subscription (5% off a three month Purely Books Subscription or month-to-month Book Box Club Subscription).

Overall, I’m extremely happy with my experience with the Book Box Club and look forward to writing more posts about my expereinces. My next post will be about the exclusive club( yes, the secret society) where I get to ask the author questions and speak to others who’ve also received the invite to the Club!
