Synopsis:

One year, two opposites, and a love that will blindside and, ultimately, shatter them.

She’s an aspiring interior designer who dreams of falling in love. He’s an ex-football star who thinks love is a con.

She’s a virgin, and he doesn’t do virgins. He’s cocky, infuriating, and not her type.
She wants the fairytale. He wants freedom.
Blake and Farrah shouldn’t have fallen for each other the way they did: totally, completely, and irrevocably. Because they’re studying abroad in Shanghai, and they only have one year. Because forces at home threaten to rip them apart, even if they don’t know it yet.
And because, eventually, they must face the most heartbreaking lesson they’ll ever learn: sometimes, even the greatest love can’t conquer all.

Warning: This is the first book in a duet. It’s a full-length novel with no sudden cliffhangers, but Blake and Farrah’s story continues in book two, If the Sun Never Sets (due out July 2020), which takes place five years later. HEA guaranteed in book two.

– My Thoughts –

Set in Shanghai, this study-abroad romance is cheesy but will tug at your heartstrings.

But in the end, the universe gets its way,

and though they fought until their lungs ran out of breath,

they eventually had to ease apart.

The prologue warns us that this story won’t have a happy ending, that it will be bittersweet. You’ll have to wait for the sequel to know if the couple gets their H-E-A or not.

Blake and Farrah are complete opposites of each other. Even though Farrah found Blake physically appealing, she had eyes for someone else. In the first couple of chapters, we see Blake and Farrah bicker, hang out and eventually develop an attraction to each other. While I loved their conversations and their romance, it felt too fast for my taste. Another chapter of them hanging out as friends would have done wonders in deepening their connection.

I loved Blake and Farrah as characters, the author did a great job at showcasing the differences in their lives, their vulnerabilities, their hopes and dreams. I also loved the way the author wrote the sex scenes, correctly depicting the awkwardness and struggles Farrah must have felt.

Another one of my favourite parts in the book was the descriptions of the setting. The scene where Blake and Farrah were at the Great Wall of China was absolutely beautiful. The food, the descriptions of their setting, Blake and Farrah’s friends and the bond they had made this book feel like a warm hug.

Overall, I would recommend this if you don’t mind reading cheesy college romances, beautiful settings, and beautiful friendships. Book Two, If The Sun Never sets will be out next month on July 30th. You can add it on Goodreads as well!

Thanks to the author for gifting me an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
